Quality Garden Sheds

Our made-to-order garden sheds are more than just a place to keep the lawnmower. They’re crafted spaces, built for a lifetime of use and designed to suit the way you live. Each one is handcrafted in our Norfolk workshop from PEFC certified Scandanavian Redwood timber, for natural strength and durability. Unlike flat-pack alternatives, every board is hand-selected and precision-cut for a flawless fit. Whether you’re looking for a robust hobby space, a practical wooden shed for everyday use or a heritage garden shed with period charm, every design combines premium materials, skilled craftsmanship and features you simply won’t find elsewhere.

National Trust Garden Shed Collection

Developed in collaboration with the National Trust, these heritage garden sheds are inspired by historic outbuildings across East Anglia. They feature sawn timber cladding, earth paint tones and a corrugated roof. Each sale supports the National Trust’s conservation work.

The Benefits of a Crane Garden Shed

Materials that last

Every Crane shed begins with PEFC certified Scandanavian Redwood timber, matured for at least 120 years for exceptional density and durability. Unlike mass-produced alternatives, we hand-select each board, removing knots that could compromise the structure over time.

In our Norfolk workshop, precision computer cutting ensures every joint fits together perfectly. Our two-coat paint system, factory-applied for consistency, finishes your shed with our classic paint or Sikkens preservative stain. On our Superior shed range, you can even choose richly pigmented colours from the Farrow & Ball paint range.

Designed around your needs

Choose from apex or pent roof designs, add insulation for year-round comfort, or configure your layout with partitions, a workbench and an electric pack. For enhanced security, we have developed our own three-step security pack for complete peace of mind. Consisting of integrated window bars, anti-theft bolts and a seven-lever mortice lock, the Crane security pack can easily be added to your garden shed, ensuring that everything inside is kept safe and secure.

FAQs

Most garden sheds fall under permitted development regulations, so planning permission usually isn’t needed. These rules depend on height, footprint, position and sometimes intended use. If you live in a conservation area, have a listed property, or want a larger workshop-style shed, permission may be needed.

Our sheds are designed to meet standard size and height limits, but if you do need planning permission, we offer a separate, optional service to manage the process for you.

Use our online calculator to check if your shed needs planning permission.

A well-made timber shed can last more than 30 years with the right care. The key factors are the quality of the wood used and the way it’s built. Slow grown wood means a dense grain, which naturally has greater strength and longevity.

We handcraft our sheds from Scandanavian Redwood, and finish with our two-coat, factory applied paint system for long term protection. Our 10-year guarantee is just the start of your shed’s lifespan. With regular upkeep, your Crane shed will live a life far beyond that.

Yes, with the right specification and thoughtful placement your shed can become more than seasonal storage. Adding insulation, lining and electrics can create a comfortable space for work or hobbies even in the colder months.

Read our guide on how to position your shed for helpful tips and considerations that will make it easier to enjoy your shed throughout the year.

Metal and plastic sheds may seem practical, but they often struggle with condensation, temperature swings and limited lifespan. A Crane timber shed provides natural insulation, strength and style.

Unlike metal or plastic, timber can be tailored with paint colours, insulation, electric fittings and roof finishes for a space that’s practical and personal to you.

Read our guide on which shed material is best for further information.

Flat-pack sheds are quick and cheap, but their lightweight, mass-produced construction often means gaps, fillers and short lifespans. Often made from thin boards or MDF, they can warp, leak or develop mould as temperatures change. With little insulation or security, they struggle to cope with heavy weather.

A made-to-order timber shed, by contrast, is built for strength and longevity. Every detail can be customised. From size and layout to roof style, windows and finishes, it meets your needs and then some.
