Shepherds Huts in Narford
After a very exciting period of designing, prototyping and planning, our very first Shepherds Hut was recently installed on our show site at the Crane Garden Buildings HQ in Narford, Norfolk. Measuring 2.4 x 4.8m, this timber Shepherds Hut
was entirely made by hand using only the finest materials including FSC© certified timber sourced sustainably
from Sweden and has a charming aesthetic that adds instant character.
The structure of the building is topped with a curved roof clad in black corrugated steel for a contemporary agricultural look, paying homage to the traditional shepherd's huts used by livestock guardians across the UK and France for many years. Sitting atop statement cast-iron wheels, the exterior walls are covered with rustic weatherboard cladding, and each of the double-glazed windows features an attractive Georgian design. All joinery is accessorised with antique-black hardware, meaning the handles, hinges and latches all offer a stunning classical look. The colour palette in this instance is a timeless, two-tone composition of Pebble and Ivory, both selected from our in-house range of opaque exterior shades.
Inside, this cosy space benefits from full insulation and matchboard lining painted in two stunning Farrow & Ball shades. On the ceiling, Slipper Satin creates an airy, open effect, while the walls are finished in Shadow White for subtle depth and character. Equipped with a full electrical pack and heater, the building can be used throughout the year in any season, making it a great option for a garden office, reading retreat, playroom or simply a place away from your main home to relax.
