Our Base Laying Services

A flat, level foundation is one of the most important elements of any garden building installation. Whether you choose to have our experienced in-house team prepare your base or already have a suitable foundation in place, ensuring the base is correctly installed will help protect the performance, appearance and longevity of your building for years to come.

We offer professional timber, steel and concrete base laying services, providing a complete solution from groundworks through to building installation. Where more extensive site preparation is required, we can undertake groundworks, including site clearance, excavation and levelling, to create the ideal foundation for your chosen building.

Alternatively, if you already have an existing base or plan to arrange one independently, we can install your garden building on top of it, provided the surface is within 5mm of level across the entire footprint.

Even a small deviation can lead to structural issues over time, which is why we place such importance on getting the foundations right from the very beginning.

Our sales designers can advise on the most suitable base for your building. For guidance or to get a base quote, call us on 01760 444229 or fill out our contact form.

The Benefits of Timber Bases

Timber bases provide a practical and cost-effective foundation solution for smaller, lighter-use garden buildings. Manufactured from durable, pressure-treated timber, they create a stable platform while allowing airflow beneath the building, helping to keep the structure elevated from ground moisture.

For customers choosing a Classic Shed, Classic Summerhouse or a building from our National Trust Collection, a timber base can provide an ideal foundation where light use is intended.

The Benefits of Steel Bases

Our recommended foundation solution, steel bases offer exceptional strength, durability and versatility for every garden building in our range. Their adaptable design allows them to be installed on a variety of ground conditions and, in many cases, directly over existing patios or hardstanding areas, reducing the need for extensive groundworks. Additionally, they can usually be installed on the same time as your building, whereas concrete base installtion requires two visits.

Because steel bases require minimal excavation, they can help preserve existing landscaping and tree roots while promoting excellent airflow beneath the building. This helps reduce the risk of moisture build-up beneath the floor, creating a long-lasting foundation suitable for everything from garden rooms and studios to home offices and gyms.

The Benefits of Concrete Bases

Concrete bases provide a robust and highly stable foundation for garden buildings of all sizes. Professionally laid and reinforced where required, they are capable of supporting substantial structures and heavy-duty use.

Concrete bases are particularly effective where ground conditions require additional support, offering excellent long-term stability and peace of mind. When installed correctly, they provide a dependable foundation that will serve your garden building for decades.

Why a Level Base Matters

A garden building is only as good as the foundation beneath it. Even a slight variation in level can cause problems that become increasingly noticeable over time as the building settles.

An uneven base can lead to doors and windows falling out of alignment, making them difficult to open or close properly. It can also place unnecessary stress on the structure itself, potentially causing components to crack, twist or become damaged. In some cases, gaps created by movement may allow water to enter the building, increasing the risk of damp and damage to anything stored inside.

For this reason, we require all bases - whether installed by our team or supplied by others - to be within 5mm of level before installation takes place. Taking the time to ensure a properly prepared foundation from the outset helps protect your investment and ensures your garden building performs exactly as intended for many years to come.
