Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside – especially from the comfort of a quality beach hut. Our roots are in the coastal village of Dersingham, Norfolk, so we understand what it takes to craft buildings that can withstand the harsh realities of seaside environments. We use this expertise to design and manufacture beautiful timber beach huts for seafronts across the UK. Delivered and installed by our expert fitting team, our beach huts are perfect for private ownership for local councils seeking to lease out. To discuss our made-to-order beach huts, call our team on 01760 444229, or email sales@cranegardenbuildings.co.uk.
What is a beach hut?
Beach huts are single-room, wooden structures, typically found in coastal towns like Southwold, Brighton and Mudeford Spit. Often colourfully painted, beach huts have been brightening UK beaches since the late 19th century, when they first emerged as modest, horse-drawn changing spaces. After losing their wheels and finding a more permanent perch on the seafront, beach huts evolved into places for leisure and coastal enjoyment. Modern beach huts often reflect the Victorian designs that came before them, with pent roofs, decorative finnials, and scalloped fascias.
Why have a beach hut?
Owning or renting a beach hut on the coast gives you a beautiful seaside escape, whenever you want it. Perfect for a UK ‘staycation’, beach hut ownership became very popular during 2020 when holiday-makers found themselves unable to travel abroad. They are a great space to own if you have a family, as they provide a personal storage and relaxing space, just a stone’s throw from the beach. Not only can they store seaside essentials like buckets, spades and windbreakers, but they also provide a comfortable retreat when the weather takes an unpredictable turn. Family holidays become treasured memories with a beach hut to return to year on year.
How to own a beach hut
We work with customers looking for freehold beach huts, and with local councils seeking beach hut construction partners.
To own a custom beach hut, you will first need a leasehold license for the site, which can be sought through your local council. Once in place, you can commission the build from a trusted manufacturer.
The best choice for beach huts
As a family-run business with coastal roots in Norfolk, we understand exactly what it takes to create beach huts that stand up to the demands of the seaside. What began over 50 years ago has grown into a nationwide business specialising in premium garden buildings, and beach huts are a natural extension of that expertise.
Using high-quality materials and built to exceptional standards, our huts are designed to last, just as those we installed over 40 years ago in Old Hunstanton continue to do today.
Our beach hut features & considerations
Premium construction materials
Our premium, responsibly sourced timber it what sets us apart. The dense, close grain is a result of over a century of growth, which produces fewer knots and incredible durability. Combined with our handcrafted approach and strict quality assurances, these superior materials make our beach huts and platforms extremely resilient to harsh coastal conditions. Seawater, salt air, and abrasive sand are accounted for in every build, ensuring dependable performance in seaside environments.
World-leading paint finishes
Our state-of-the-art robotic spray paint line gives an industry-leading finish to all of our buildings. Paint is consistently applied and dried under prime conditions, giving us greater control over the quality and precision of the final finish. What’s more, we can commission any bespoke colour through our trusted exterior paint partner, so your beach hut can be finished in a shade that’s uniquely yours.
Bespoke design
Much like our range of sheds, summerhouses and garden studios, our beach huts can be customized to suit you. Window height and size, door position and fascia design are just a few features which can be tailored to your vision. A great example of this is our range of beach huts in Felixstowe, which were designed to preserve the charm of the existing, original 1960s huts that line the Essex coastline. We recommend getting in touch directly with our designers on 01760 444229 to discuss your vision, or by contacting sales@cranegardenbuildings.co.uk.
