The customer’s garden is very quaint and the Langham slots very naturally into the back corner, surrounded by windy trees, gravel and angel themed sculptures.
This studio is going to become an outside office for our customer, as she wanted a place to write and work in peace and quiet, away from all the distractions of her home.
Cedar shingles have been used to cover the roof of the Langham; these are Canadian cedar shingles that have been made into tiles by our own craftsmen. This material isn’t like any of our other roofing materials though; they change colour over time! To begin with, they are a rich terracotta colour, and then, gradually, the tiles start to develop silver flecks as they age. They do however have a life expectancy of 25-35 years and they are fixed onto the roof by using stainless steel fixings.
The cladding on the building is weatherboard, which gives the timber a more rustic look than the smooth and polished shiplap.
The cladding has been finished in Twine from our exterior paint system, which is an off-white/pale grey colour that works really well with the vibrant colour of the roof tiles.

As standard, the Langham comes with a single door; however, this customer wanted double doors, so we have slightly changed the layout of the front of the studio. So, instead of three windows next to each other and a single door on the end, the customer has got double doors in the middle, with a window on either side of them (both of these windows open).
On the left gable end there are two windows: one regular window that opens, and another next to it with a fan light window on top (as seen in the picture).
As well as being able to open four out of the five windows in the Langham, the customer also chose to have two Velux windows fitted into the roof of the building, so there will be plenty of air flowing through the building if the customer wishes it to.
Inside the studio, on the right gable end wall, the customer opted for a workbench that fills the width of the building (3m); this will become a great storage area. The customer also opted for painted matchboard lining and insulation and an electrical pack with a heater, so she will be able to use this office all year round.
