More About Sikkens Paint

Here at Cranes, we see little value in taking the time and effort hand-crafting sheds, summerhouses or other garden buildings to the highest specification, only to finish it with a lesser quality paint or preservative. We spend a great deal of time researching the market to ensure that we use only the finest paints and preservatives. Following extensive research, we offer three main paint systems, which provide very different finishes in a wide range of colours; Sikkens, our exterior paint system and exterior Farrow & Ball.

Sikkens is a translucent wood stain which provides long-lasting colour and protection, but still allows the natural grain of the FSC® certified Scots Pine timber that we use, to show through. Every ensure each type of paint we use provides a highly water-resistant and weather-proof finish, offering outstanding protection against sunlight, rain and wind. Our exterior paint system is a fully opaque range of colours and Farrow & Ball provides high performance paint in a historic colour palette.

Each individual panel of a garden building receives a base coat of light oak preservative, which is followed by the customer’s choice of exterior paint.

We choose to spray each panel prior to final assembly, to ensure that there are no parts, especially joins, left unprotected and that each panel receives a consistent application. Spraying provides a smoother finish and a more even covering than brush application of paint.

Part of the Akzo Nobel group, the Sikkens brand was founded in 1792 and is an innovative and extremely high-performance coating - in fact, a variation of it is also used in Formula 1 racing!
