We've Won at RHS Chelsea Again!

RHS Chelsea Building 2019

It's been another winning year at the RHS Chelsea Flower show for us! We have received the 5-star Trade Stand award for our show-stopping display with two of our luxury timber garden buildings nestled into a romantic garden reminiscent of a woodland walk.

The generously-sized stand played host to two buildings, our signature Garden Room and a traditionally styled Superior Shed, both of which were designed and built here at HQ using only the finest FSC® certified Scandinavian redwood and expert craftsmanship.

The blooming flora and intricate paving surrounding the two buildings were carefully selected and positioned by our in-house Garden Designer and Head of Sales, Peter Mortin, who describes this years’ theme for the garden as a ‘natural woodland’. He explained that the stand features a mixture of evergreen and deciduous plants as the ideal base, combined with herbaceous and alpine flowering plants to add interest and colour. All plants for the display are sourced from local nurseries in both Suffolk and Norfolk, with Mr Mortin saying: ‘We have sourced all plants from the same nurseries for a number of years and are confident that the high-quality of the foliage will reflect the quality of our buildings.’

Specific plants from this years’ stunning display have been deliberately selected to evoke the perfect country cottage garden, with soft pinks and purples in the form of lavender, foxgloves, drumstick primulas, irises, and purple alliums bedded amongst lush greenery. This vivid greenery is a delightful mix of acer shrubs, choisya, fatsia japonica, cordyline and various different hosta plants for further texture and layering. A full planting list will be shortly available on our blog!

The walling for the stand is crafted from Canadian Cedar, which we source from the British Columbia region of Canada, and normally use as roofing material for our buildings. This stunning natural wood is of Blue Label quality and weathers beautifully to a stunning shade of silver. The aim of the garden is to intertwine elements of the building design into the tones of the colours used throughout, such as the grey of the slate composite roof tiles present within the warm natural rhythm slate paving.  Both buildings mirror each other beautifully and are painted in a two-tone fashion using Farrow & Ball shades Light Gray and Old White. Mr Mortin hopes to inspire others to create a space of leisure and enjoyment in their own gardens, saying ‘We really wanted this years’ stand to show our wonderful customers what our buildings can look like in their own gardens’.

This stunning display is the result of months of planning and hard work on the behalf of our CAD team, our factory workers, our in-house Videographer who compiled a visual video feature for the stand and of course our fitting team who ensured both buildings went up seamlessly, and who will also ensure that they come down that way too!

The Garden Room on display at this years’ show is set to take up residence at our show site in Cranleigh, Surrey after the show.

Brothers and company partners, James and Nick Crane insisted that the triumph is due to the hard work of all staff who continue to make such successes possible: “This continued success is undoubtedly the result of the time and effort put in by our staff, and it is them that we have to thank for this.”
