Superior Shed with Underfloor Insulation
This rustic Superior Shed in Beenham, Berkshire is a great fit for our customer who wanted a workshop set away from his house to carry out his woodwork projects in a spacious environment.
This garden building is 3.6 x 5.4m in size. There are no partitions in this shed, so there is a large open floor space, with enough room to store even large tools, as well as plenty of room to work on his projects (small or large).
The customer chose the Black Sikkens Paint System with the Cedar Shingles Roof Covering; they complement each other wonderfully. The Sikkens Paint System provides bold colours, but it still allows the wood grain to be seen through it, thus enhancing the natural beauty of the timber. This is the preferred choice for more rustic looking garden buildings.
The exterior has been built using our sawn weatherboard cladding. This creates a more rustic finish than our standard planed shiplap, which, along with the Black Sikkens Paint System, will help to enhance the more natural look of the workshop.
This shed has a set of double doors at the front with 1 Georgian window fitted into each door; the Georgian windows add that little bit of extra style to the shed. There are 9 windows in total on this garden building (including the 2 in the doors), 2 of which open: there are three windows at the front (the middle of which opens), 1 window at one end of the building, and 3 at the other end of the building (again, the middle of which opens). These 2 openable windows will allow a nice breeze to flow through the workshop, and of course, if it is a hot day, the double doors can also be opened to get that extra fresh air flowing through.
This particular workshop is suitable to use all year round as it has the Oak Faced Play Lining and Insulation, as well as floor insulation to keep the customer warm through those long winter months. The lining and insulation is fitted by trapping a breathable paper membrane between the studwork and the external cladding which traps moisture. The oak faced plywood (12mm) is then fitted internally. The oak finish gives a nice warming effect, and is sturdy enough for the customer to place any hooks or shelving that he wishes.
Each of our garden buildings are built at our Norfolk factory HQ near Swaffham using slow-growing FSC® certified timber sourced from our partner sawmill Northern Sweden.
